Mihai Constantineanu (1894- 1993) – biologist, university professor, internationally recognized researcher, founder of the modern School of Entomology of the University of Iaşi.
He attended primary and secondary school in his home village, high school at August Treboniu Laurian High School in Botoşani and in 1909 he attended Veniamin Costache Seminary. In 1918 he was enrolled as a student at the Faculty of Sciences, Natural Sciences Department, Alexandru Ioan Cuza University of Iaşi and he got his Bachelor’s Degree in 1923. He continued to work as a teaching assistant at the Descriptive Zoology Laboratory of the Faculty of Sciences. He was granted a Vasile Adamachi Scholarship at the Institute of Zoology in Berlin (1927-1929), also graduating the Fridrich Wilhelm University in Berlin. He did research internships in France (1929-1930) at The National Agronomic Institute, The Marine Biological Station of Banya sur Mer, The Marine Zoological Station of Roskoff, The Natural History Museum in Paris and in Italy, at the Higher Institute of Agronomy of Portal (July-September 1930). In 1923 he was a teaching assistant at the Descriptive Zoology Laboratory of the Faculty of Sciences, then lecturer at the same faculty (1933-1942), associate professor at the Faculty of Agronomy, the Institute of Agronomy in Iaşi (1942-1948); professor at the Faculty of Agronomy, the Institute of Agronomy in Iaşi (1948-1950) and professor at Faculty of Biology, Alexandru Ioan Cuza University of Iaşi (1950-1964). He was Dean of the the Faculty of Agronomy, the Institute of Agronomy in Iaşi (1950-1951); Head of Department at the Faculty of Biology, Alexandru Ioan Cuza University of Iaşi (1952-1964).
He published 14 monographs at different publishing houses in Romania and abroad and over 150 scientific works. For his scientific contributions, the Romanian Academy granted him the “Emil Racoviţă” and “Grigore Antipa” Awards. He passed away on 29th March 1993 at the age of 99.
